Whether you’re looking for something new to replace your old home comfort system or you are having a system installed for the first time, a ductless cooling system is definitely an option worth considering. These systems are rapidly gaining popularity throughout the country because of their unique blend of efficiency and effectiveness.
Because ductless split systems are still relatively new, it’s helpful to discuss how this type of home comfort system could be integrated in to your home with a professional. The Merced, CA area ductless experts at Ace Air, Inc. are happy to help you determine if one of these systems is right for your home.
How Ductless Systems Work
In a traditional forced air conditioning system, an outdoor compressor unit cools the air, which is then transferred to an indoor air handling unit through an air duct. The air handler is hooked up to the larger system of ducts that run throughout the home which then circulate the cooled air to all areas.
A ductless system, on the other hand, uses a refrigerant line instead of ducts to connect the outdoor compressor with the indoor unit. This indoor unit is installed in a section or room of your home and serves only that specific area. You can, however, have multiple air handlers hooked up to the same outdoor compressor, meaning you can still cover all areas of your home with one ductless system.
In ductless split systems, the refrigerant line carries coolant from the outdoor compressor to the indoor units, which then circulate cooled air throughout the room. They also filter the air locally, drawing in the air already in the room, passing it through an air filter, and then recirculating it.
Ductless Split Installation
One of the main benefits of a ductless system is that, particularly if you don’t already have air ducts in your home, the installation process is much easier, less disruptive and less costly. If you opt for a traditional forced air system and need ducts installed, the cost of the installation rises dramatically. The installation process will also be quite disruptive and may even end up compromising some of the nicer architectural elements of your home. And after all that, there may still be some areas that the ducts simply cannot reach.
Because a ductless system only requires the installation of a few refrigerant lines, it’s much cheaper and simpler to put in. It’s also able to reach into tight spaces and remote areas of your home, making it possible to control temperatures in areas that a traditional system simply would never have been able to.
Ductless Systems are Energy Efficient
Another benefit of ductless splits is that they’re incredibly energy efficient. In a traditional system, cool air is lost as it travels through the air ducts. This means that you’ll never receive all of the temperature controlled air that your system generates in the actual living space of your home. Ductless systems don’t have this issue so all of the cool air generated is passed directly into your living area.
