We’ll start off by saying that if your air conditioning system looks anything like what you see in the image here, you can probably just stop reading this blog post and give our technicians a call right away to get your summer started off with a brand new air conditioner!
Even if it’s not that bad off, when you do need a replacement system, there’s no time like the present to schedule your Turlock AC installation. Doing so now enables you to enjoy the benefits of a new air conditioning system, including the improvement in efficiency and increased reliability that an aging system just can’t give you anymore. Scheduling your installation now also prevents you from having to scramble if your old AC system fails in the middle of a heat wave.
Your new system can either be an upgraded version of your current one, or a completely different setup altogether—it’s up to you. We will, of course, help you make an educated decision!
“Do I Need to Replace My AC Now?”
That’s a great question! After all, how can you tell if you actually need an air conditioner replacement? What are the signs that your old system needs to be replaced—or can your cooling system actually continue to function throughout another summer or two?
Although we are certainly here to help, only you can make that decision in the end. In the meantime, though, there are some distinct indicators to watch out for, which tell you it’s time.
How Old Is the System?
While it depends on the make of your air conditioner, in addition to how well cared for it is, the typical air conditioner can last 10-15 years. If yours has reached or surpassed that threshold, and you find yourself calling for repairs pretty frequently or hearing strange noises from the system on a regular basis, then it’s almost certainly time to consider a system replacement.
Is the Manufacturer Warranty Still Good?
Every climate control system comes with a warranty, typically lasting around 8-12 years. So long as the warranty is still in effect, you’re going to likely be better off repairing any problems that come up, instead of replacing the whole system. The reason we say this is because the warranty covers the cost of any of the system’s original components during repairs—meaning you will only have to pay for labor, and maybe a few additional components like bolts and screws.
Even if your system warranty expired, repairs are, understandably, preferable to replacement. That is, as long as the repairs aren’t unnecessarily expensive! When that warranty has expired and the cost of running your existing air conditioner is higher than you feel the system is worth (usually about half of what a new system would cost) you should consider replacement.
How Efficiently Is the System Working?
Are your heating bills rising each summer? Even though you’re using it no more than you did last year, and you’ve had maintenance and/or repairs done? This is a sign that your air conditioner isn’t working as efficiently as it once did or is supposed to. So, you end up paying more and more for the AC to operate, without getting the cooling power to compensate for that price. If this is the case for your cooling system, then definitely consider a replacement!
